28 May, 2010 - We Are Family Benefit: Anti-Flag, The Menzingers, The Max Levine Ensemble

As the 4th of July approaches, American thoughts should turn toward revolution: that which has been, and what remains to be done.

Given the recent furor generated by a certain group of right wing protesters, there is no better time to have a REAL Tea Party, focused on the scandal of Taxation Without Representation in the nation's capital. Sadly, those who have recently claimed the Tea Party label resolutely decline to address DC's lack of voting representation, collaborating with their Capitol Hill allies to insult and marginalize nearly 600,000 residents of the capital city. Offering single vote to DC while adding one to Utah as well is not insult enough; they also seek to further undermine home rule by overturning our gun laws in the bargain!

Let's call this what it is: TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION. So, in the spirit of the original Tea Party -- an act of radical direct action against empire, based on this exact grievance -- and with a general intention towards reclaiming this country's revolutionary heritage for progressive forces, Positive Force has joined together with Pittsburgh's renowned political punk band Anti-Flag to call for full voting representation for DC!

Our Tea Party will begin at St. Stephen's Church, with a teach-in before the show, a booklet on the issues at hand, and info on follow-up actions. The evening will be a benefit for We Are Family, a group that not only supports DC voting rights, but seeks to make the idea of "family" real in a broad yet practical way, beginning with outreach and advocacy to isolated, low-income seniors in nearby inner-city communities.

Free DC! benefit for We Are Family with: Anti-Flag (SideOneDummy) The Menzingers (Red Scare Industries) The Max Levine Ensemble (local boys made good)

Doors at 6:00pm, Music at 7:00pm. $10, 9 with a can. St. Stephens Church is located just blocks away from the Columbia Heights Metro/S2, S4, 42 Bus

Advance tickets will be available at Smash! Records located at 2314 18th Street Northwest
